All those who attended the event “Boomers, Zoomers and Boardrooms: From Typewriters to TikTok – Where Experience Meets Innovation”, on Thursday, September 25th at the Cyprus University of Technology, experienced an evening filled with inspiration, energy, and creative dialogue!
The event, co-organized by the Research Office of the EUt+ Coordination Center at CUT and ICC Cyprus Women, filled the venue to capacity, proving the strength and relevance of the topic.
The opening remarks began with Ms. Monica Ioannidou Polemitis, President of ICC Cyprus Women, who highlighted the importance of such events in fostering meaningful public dialogue, beyond the often misleading and alienating interactions on social media. Following this, Professor Soteris Kalogirou, Head of the EUt+ Coordination Center, in his address, connected the event to the mission of the Research Office of the EUt+ Center, strengthening participation, collaboration, and knowledge dissemination to society through dialogues, meetings, and co-creative actions in the spirit of open science. “This event,” Professor Kalogirou noted, “embodies the social and intergenerational dimension of work, while also reflecting the mission of the Research Office: to enhance participation, cooperation, and the diffusion of knowledge at all levels.”
A particularly moving moment was the contribution of Mr. Hassan M. Al-Shohaty, who reminded us: “We are all different. And that is what makes us the same.”
The evening reached its highlight with a lively intergenerational panel discussion, where experience met innovation. On one side, established professionals such as Ms. Elena Meli and Mr. Tassos Televantidis; on the other, the fresh voices of our students Nausica Ioannidou and Mary Galianidou. The discussion was excellently moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Vicky Triga of CUT, who, through a sociological lens, emphasized that the gap between Boomers and Zoomers functions as a distinct social division—comparable to technological, economic, or geographic divides—manifested in perceptions, political identity, and inequalities in access to resources.
The energy in the room was truly unique. The lively conversations, along with the networking cocktail that followed, transformed the event into a true celebration of collaboration and exchange of ideas.
