The student community recognized 147 professors for their contribution to fostering an open, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

The EUt+ Coordination Center held an event today, Wednesday, December 17, in honor of academic staff and professors of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), who were recognized by the student community for implementing inclusive teaching practices in their courses.

The event took place in the events hall of the Municipal University Library and was part of the #In-Taboo Campaign 2, “I Learn in My Own Way,” designed and implemented by the Office of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion of the EUt+ Coordination Center at CUT. This year’s campaign focused on highlighting the diversity of learning styles and teaching practices that enhance the participation of all students, as well as on the public recognition of professors who apply these practices in their teaching.

During the event, the results of the first and second In-Taboo campaigns were presented by Ms. Emily Kouzaridi, Research Associate at the Office of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion of the EUt+ Coordination Center. Subsequently, the Center’s graphic designer, Ms. Stefanie Stylianou, analyzed the philosophy and creative approach behind the campaign’s communication, with an emphasis on graphic design.

The recognition of academic staff and professors of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) was based on a questionnaire distributed to the CUT student community from October 15 to December 3. A total of 328 responses were received, resulting in 147 individual nominations for corresponding professors (faculty members, special teaching staff, and special scientists) who, according to students’ experiences, implement inclusive teaching practices.

Certificates of special recognition were awarded to the professors who received the highest number of votes from the student community:

  • Dr. Katerina Kaikousi, Special Scientist, Department of Nursing
  • Dr. Giannis Georgiou, Lecturer, Department of Communication and Internet Studies
  • Dr. Ioli Nikolaidou, Associate Professor, Department of Communication and Internet Studies

The certificates were presented by the Vice Rector for Financial Planning and Development, Professor Evangelos Akylas, and the Head of the EUt+ Coordination Center, Professor Sotiris Kalogirou.

All professors who attended the event received a certificate of recognition for inclusive teaching from the EUt+ Coordination Center, as a token of appreciation for their contribution to shaping an open, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

The event highlighted the positive messages expressed by the student community and reaffirmed the commitment of CUT and EUt+ to promoting equality, inclusion, and respect for diversity in teaching and learning.
