From Research to Market: Turning Ideas into Impact

How can research conducted at a university move beyond the laboratory and reach the market? And what does it take for an innovative idea to become something that creates real value for society?

These were some of the key questions explored through the collaboration between the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), the EUt+ Coordination Centre, and the NBG Business Seeds initiative.

The programme began on 8 October 2026 with visits to CUT laboratories, where participants were introduced to advanced research facilities, technologies and applications with strong potential for real-world impact. This was followed by Innovation Showcases, where researchers from the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence and CUT presented technologies and research projects addressing challenges across a range of sectors.

Representatives from investment organisations, including Metavallon, L-Stone Capital, Uni.Fund, Investing for Purpose and Big Pi Ventures, as well as the Head of Innovation of the National Bank of Greece, also took part. Their presence created opportunities for researchers to discuss potential funding pathways, partnerships and the future development of emerging technologies and ideas.

Opportunities Beyond Borders

Through EUt+, students and researchers gain access to a wider European network of knowledge, collaboration and innovation. In addition, initiatives such as the EUt+ Entrepreneurship School and the LUMINA platform provide training and guidance in entrepreneurship and innovation.

For students, this means that opportunities to develop an idea are not limited to their university or even their country. They can connect with peers, experts and potential collaborators from across Europe, gaining valuable experience and new perspectives along the way.

The Key Message

You do not need to wait until graduation to start putting your ideas into practice. University can be the starting point for experimenting, collaborating and building solutions that create real impact.

Because innovation does not always begin with a groundbreaking discovery. Sometimes, it starts with a simple idea, an interesting question, or a problem you are determined to solve.
