The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) eut+Construct: Learn, Lead, Legacy concluded with great success at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), under the academic leadership of Associate Professor Stelios Yiatros. The programme was designed for students of Civil Engineering and Architecture from the partner universities of the European University of Technology (EUt+) alliance, with the aim of enhancing practical skills in project management and sustainable construction.
During the intensive week held in Limassol, Cyprus, 27 students from the Cyprus University of Technology, the Technological University Dublin, Riga Technical University, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, and the University of Cassino collaborated on a hands-on construction challenge. Working within a simulated construction company environment, the students assumed defined roles, coordinated a real worksite, and delivered a small-scale public infrastructure project — a gift to the university and the local community.
The outcome of this collaboration was an outdoor relaxation area, located in the courtyard of the CUT Library. The project included the construction of concrete foundations and integrated planters, the design and assembly of wooden benches with metal frames, the planting of aromatic herbs, the cleaning and landscaping of the surrounding area with white gravel, and the installation of a fabric-covered dome that offers shade and architectural character. What emerged is a space that is not only functional but also aesthetically inviting — a true contribution to public life on campus and in the city of Limassol.
But eut+Construct was more than just an educational programme. It was a celebration of international cooperation, sustainability, and social engagement. The students brought together theory and practice, technical knowledge and creativity, teamwork and personal responsibility. What they left behind is not only a physical structure but a symbol of the power of learning and collaboration. This marks the first EUt+ student-built project with immediate social impact, representing a living embodiment of the programme’s three core values: Learn, Lead, Legacy.
With the support of academic mentors and industry professionals, the project reflects the mission of EUt+: to educate future engineers and architects who are innovative, socially responsible, and ready to shape a more sustainable world. Limassol now has a new public space for meeting, resting, and reflecting — created by passionate young people who turned a learning experience into a lasting legacy, through the vision and strength of the European University of Technology, with CUT as a proud and active member.
